Wine Selection ...
We have organized our wines by taste categories rather than by grape varietal or region. This makes it easy for you to focus on the style of wine that appeals to you regardless of the type of grape used to make it or where it comes from. For example, wines made from the same grape variety can be classified in two different taste categories due to climates, soils, and variations in the wine making process. We are here to assist you in finding great wines that you truly enjoy. Come in and explore our “wall of wine!” Also, be sure to check out our selection of fine ports.
For more information about our taste categories click on the links below: This category of crisp and dry white wines includes Sauvignon Blancs, Pinot Gris and less common varietals such as Viognier, Verdejo, Albarino and Chenin Blanc. Some excellent examples of wines in this category are: Villa Maria Savignon Blanc from New Zealand, Pasil Verdejo from Spain, and Chappellet Chenin Blanc from California. This category is also comprised of white wines but they are decidedly different than those in the Fresh category. Luscious wines are those that feel soft on the palate and have pronounced fruit flavors and a hint of sweetness. Chardonnays, Reislings, Pinot Blancs and some Pinot Gris fall into this category. Some excellent examples of Luscious wines are Scagliola Chardonnay from Italy, Von Hovel Estate Riesling from Germany and Gerard Metz Pinot Gris from France.
Red wines that are well balanced with no rough edges and mild tannins fall in this category. Some Merlots, Pinot Noirs, and Chiantis are classified as smooth as well as more unusual wines such as Tempranillo and Garnacha from Spain and blends from the Bordeaux region. Tikalo Kios Tempranillo from Spain, Colognole Chianti Rufina from Italy, Biscardo Valpolicella Ripasso, and Chateau Plaisance (Bordeaux) from France are great examples of Smooth wines. When you think Juicy think Zinfandel. While it is not the only Juicy wine, it’s representative of the category. We also offer excellent red blends which have predominant flavors of rich fruit. Examples of Juicy wines are Chateau Montelena Zinfandel from California, Calcareous Zinfandel from California, Novella Synergy (a blend of Zinfandel, Sangiovese and Syrah), and Orogeny Pinot Noir from California. If you like red wines that fill your palate with flavor from the first taste to the finish, the Big category is for you. These wines are diverse in terms of grape varietals and include some Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah as well as less common varietals such Primativo from Italy, and Carmenere from Chile. Feudo San Nicola Negroamaro, Terre di Sole Nero D’Avola, Signano San Gimignano Rosso (a Cabernet and Sangiovese blend) and Calcareous Cabernet are excellent examples of Big wines. Sparkling wines go way beyond the best-known Champagnes from the region of the same name in France. Sparkling wines from other regions using varied common grape varietals are fun alternatives that work well with a variety of foods. Examples of great sparkling wines: Gruet Brut from New Mexico, Banear Prosecco from Italy and Jaillance Cremant de Bordeaux (100% Semillion grape) from France. Sweet wines can provide a perfect end to a meal or are great served on their own. We offer a variety of sweet wines to suit most palates. Our most popular sweet wine – a Moscato from Italy – appeals to people because it baloances the moderate sweetness of the Moscato grape with a pleasant ascidty that leaves a crsip and clean finishing taste. We also have wines that are a bit sweeter such as a Vin de Glacier and some that are sparkling like a Moscato D’Asti. Examples of exceptional Sweet wines are Scagliola Primo Bacio Moscato D’Asti from Italy, Gaierhof Moscato Giallo from Italy, and Bonny Doon Muscat Vin de Glaciere from California.
